The Arco floor lamp, originally designed by Achille Castiglioni in 1962, is a masterpiece of modern design, not only in its graceful curves and proportions, but also in its very philosophy. Castiglioni originally conceived of the Arco Lamp as a way of providing focussed illumination for tasks, without the need for the lamp to be in a fixed position, as it would have to be with a ceiling lamp.
